Kuntanawa Rapé Container
This stunning bamboo Rapé container, crafted by the Tete Pewã arts and medicine studio, is a true representation of Amazonian artistry. Each container is meticulously hand-decorated with intricate tribal designs using pyrography, giving it a unique and authentic appearance. The container is equipped with a screw-top lid and finished with a resin coating, providing both elegance and durability. Due to the natural variations in bamboo, these containers hold between half an ounce to one ounce of sacred medicine, making each piece a one-of-a-kind creation.
Cultural Significance and Craftsmanship:
The Tete Pewã studio is located in the upper Juruá region of Marechal Thaumaturgo municipality, deep within the Amazon rainforest. The only access to this remote area is via a two-day boat journey or a small four-seater airplane, underscoring the isolated and pristine environment where these containers are crafted. Tete Pewã, meaning Harpy in the Pano indigenous language, refers to the largest bird of prey in the region, which holds great spiritual significance among the native peoples. The Harpy is revered as a majestic and sacred being, believed to be an enchanted creation of Yuxibu, the great spirit in Huni Kuin mythology.
A Partnership Rooted in Tradition:
Since 2014, Sacred Connection has partnered with Tete Pewã, consistently bringing to the world exceptional handicrafts and the finest Kuntanawa Rapés. This collaboration is a testament to the studio’s commitment to preserving and honoring the rich cultural heritage of the Amazon. Each container not only serves as a functional storage solution but also as a sacred object, embodying the spiritual and cultural essence of the region. By choosing this container, you are supporting the continuation of these time-honored traditions and the artisans who keep them alive.
