Although they are more commonly know as the Kaxinawa they call themselves the Huni Kuin. Kaxinawa means People of the Bat and was a name given to them by other tribes. The name Huni Kuin translates as “True People”. In Brazil the total population counts 7,900 members. In Peru it is estimated that their total population numbers approximately 2,100.
