More about Huni Kuin Murici Rapé
Murici is a classic of the Huni Kuin or Kaxinawa tradition. A nice and simple rapé great for general use. Although the Huni Kuin have a vast variety of recipes and ingredients they use in their sacred snuffs, the Murici blend is a standard similar to what the Tsunu blend is to the Yawanawa: rice and beans, the daily staple (in Brazil). A great snuff without pretensions that won’t disappoint.
Murici Rapé
The Murici (Byrsonima crassifolia) tree is a common tree in the forest. The tree produces a fruit much appreciated by forest animals. And not only the animals, in many places the people collect the fruits and use them for sweets and other preparations. It is a shrubby tree that grows up to about ten meters in height. It is common all over South America. Common names used in English include nance, maricao cimun, craboo, and golden spoon.
According to the Huni Kuin, Murici rapé helps to fight fatigue and keeps ones spirituality active. These are two very basic motives the people of the forest use their Hapé Sacred Snuff. To give strength in their daily chores, ward off disease and keep themselves spiritually awake. Its action is associated with the joy of celebrating with friends.
