Nixpu is the local indigenous name for pimenta longa, or long pepper. This variety, Piper hispidinervum, is native to Brazil and occurs naturally in Acre state in the Amazon region. It depends on the proper wood and or bark used, it depends on collecting the ashes at the right time. The ashes shouldn’t be left out and get humid and only the finest and lightest ashes should be collected. For this it is important to have the right heat and make the fire burn all the way so the ashes become as light in colour as possible.
