Caboclo People

Any Rapé that falls under the expertise of the Caboclos carries the same cultural mix of its producers. The Caboclo people are the integration of indigenous tradition, African culture, and European heritage, and represent the uniqueness such a combination results in rather than being a simple sum of distinct ancestries. Their shamanic blends are amongst the strongest varieties of this secular medicine, as Rustic tobacco and Paricá ashes are often used in its making.

What it means to be a Caboclo

According to records regarding the etymology of names given to groups residing in the Amazon Basin area, either by scholars of the peoples themselves, the term Caboclo can mean “inhabitant of the Forest”, and has been traditionally used to describe those of indigenous, African, and European descent. They are farmers, extractors, fishmen, hunters, and keepers of deep, atemporal knowledge.

In Brazil, especifically in the northern state of Amazonas, an entire day is designated to celebrate the rich history and complex contribution this unique group offers to local culture. On the 24th of June, Dia do Caboclo is celebrated.

In Umbanda, another religion that’s widely practised and appreciated in Brazil and other parts of the world, inherited from African customs and sacred practices, the figure of the Caboclo is closely related to Oxóssi, a potent entity that’s connected with Nature yet possesses human power and might, uniting aspects of seemingly distinct strength, such as the Caboclos themselves.

The Rapé of the Caboclos

Shamanic Snuffs created and produced by caboclos often carry the same designation, and reflect the mixed aspects of all cultures that make up their individual history and lineage. Such rapés are usually considered to be amongst the most potent variations of this sacred medicine, as their recipe seems to usually carry rustic tobacco leaves.

Certain historical records tell of the use of Caboclo snuffs being used by Pajés (shaman healers) in their spiritual journeys, during ceremonies and rites, especially those intended for healing and those that involve meditation and transcendency.

The Enchanted Land and the Rapé of the Queen

Sacred Connection’s partnership with Caboclo representatives culminates into the extraordinary Caboclo Croa Rapé, a very special and spiritually blessed shamanic snuff that unites the strength of superior quality tobacco and the ashes of the Samaúma tree.

The Samaúma stands out in the tropical rainforest’s landscape, taller and wider than other plants. Offering protection and shade, it’s known as the true Queen of the Forest. The tree itself is considered sacred by countless native people of the Amazon Forest, who revere and respect it as the threshold between the spiritual and mundane worlds.

According to folk medicine, every part of the Samaúma tree carries mystical powers, connecting Heaven and Earth as they work upon the umbilical chakra, offering healing and revitalization.

All that magic and spirituality are taken to an even higher level, as the ashes used in this particularly smooth Rapé are collected from Samaúma trees that grow along the banks of the enchanted Croa river, which flows close to Cruzeiro do Sul, in the Northern Brazilian state of Acre.

Those that visit the region of the Croa river describe it as being a place where you can “listen to all the sounds of the Amazon Forest” and connect yourself with paradise in the very heart of the forest. It is a place of wonder and beauty, where canoes glide across beautiful and peaceful waters, and the trees grow tall and imponent.

The banks of the Croa river are the perfect spot to find potent sources of natural medicine, all connected to Mother Nature’s powers and blessings. It’s exactly that healing eneergy that goes into our elected Rapé of the Month!
