Sananga has a wide range of traditional use in the forest. Sananga eye drops are used for a variety of eye problems such as cataracts, glaucoma, astigmatism and
other eye diseases and ailments. Sanaga eydrops are used by the Yawanawa as a powerful medicine to relieve extremely painful headaches.

Traditionally it is also used in medicine ceremonies to quiet and focus the mind,
and helps to sharpen the vision when hunting at night. It is said to help against, what people in the forest, call “panema”, a spiritual accumulation of negative energy in the body that can and will lead to physical ailments when not taken care of.
