Puyanawa Rapé Snuff
The Puyanawa is an indigenous group that inhabits the extreme west of the Brazilian state of Acre. They suffered greatly from the exploitation of rubber in the late 19th and early 20th century, since then many have died from illnesses and clashes.
Read More Their culture became nearly extinct, while they were forced to work as slaves in the rubber plantations they were catechised and forced to attend schools. Like many of the tribes in the region they have since started a movement to regain their cultural identity. Recently they organised the first indigenous convention about Ayahuasca bringing together many tribes from the region to discuss their position on the spreading of the use of their ancestral medicines. This has become a yearly meeting that has been growing steadily. They make beautiful Puyanawa Rapé Snuff and have some original recipes that we present here.
